With the league title all wrapped up after a great performance against Acregate, Lostock went into today’s match against New Farington House in a relaxed mood, some of the lads even decided to give Squires a cheeky visit the night before. Tugger was back from holiday and fired out his usual Saturday night texts telling the lads not to let up and with Johno playing against his former team; this was more than an end of season run around.
Tat and Tugs were forced into a couple of changes with Ross not available today. Nutsy took his place in goal, a back four of Ben, Greeny, Luke and Johno. The midfield quartet was Roddy, Alex, Jamie and John Sanderson, whilst the upfront pairing was Will Yates and the league top goal scorer John “Gas Tank” Stead. Lostock were again missing several key players including Dashti, Charlie, Ross and Bridgett but still had a strong looking bench which included Diz, Belly, Jake, Tat and Dan Mac.
The game kicked off with the Kingsfold pitch looking soggy and wet thus meaning that neither team could really get a grip of the game. The ball seemed to be getting pumped from either end of the field and it wasn’t pretty to watch. The Lostock midfield tried to get the ball sprayed about but the greasy surface meant that any through balls generally ran out of play. The 1st major chance fell to New Fari, when a long ball was uncharacteriscally misjudged from the Lostock back line which sent the striker through, fortunately he had a touch only rivalled by Dan Mac and the ball squirmed behind for a goal kick. Minutes later Lostock launched their own attack with good work from Ben who passed to Roddy down the right hand side, Roddy whipped in a pin point cross which fell for John Sanderson who smashed his shot off the bar from all of 8 yards. That chance seemed to kick Lostock into gear and it wasn’t long till we took the lead. Some good pressing from Jamie resulted in a poor back pass, which “The Tardy Terrier” again chased down for a 50/50 with the keeper, (no prizes for guessing who would win that challenge!) JAMIE SANDERSON got up the quicker of the 2 and slotted into an empty net 1-0. Nothing else of major importance in what was a very poor 1st half showing from both teams.
Tat and Tugs were not too happy with the 1st half showing, however, some minor bickering between the players seemed to get the players fired up for the 2nd half. With Steady playing 4 games in 4 days, the management decided to bring him off and replace him with Diz, who owed a good showing after his horror show against Canaries.
Within 2 mins of the re start New farra were on level terms, some poor defending let the striker through on goal, he slipped the ball past the on rushing Nutsy, the ball found its way into the net as Nusty and the striker crashed into each other. Instead of allowing the goal the ref pointed to the spot and showed Nutsy a red card?!?!? Jake then replaced Jamie and took his place in goal. From the resulting penalty Jake made a great save, but the ball fell kindly to the striker who slotted home the equaliser 1-1. With Lostock down to 10 men it was suppose to be an up hill struggle, but we’re not Champions of Lancashire for nothing and New Fari were about to find out why. Lostock seemed to be keeping possession better being a man down and took the lead after another great run from Roddy down the right hand side, his cross caused all sorts of problems in the Fari box, with the ball falling to WILL YATES who finished well to make it 2-1. The rest of the game was played in the same fashion with Lostock doing all the running and it before long we’d scored more. RANDELL dispatched the 3rd with a cute near post finish after good work from Yates up front 3-1. With the 3rd going in you could see how disheartened the New Fari players were and more goals looked on the cards even tho they had the extra man. WILL YATES added a 4th goal and claimed his brace after Diz was played in down the left hand side and pulled it back to the big man to finish with ease 4-1 and no way back now. With their tails up and players hunting in packs looking for more goals Lostock scored a 5th. The energy and determination of Ben Yates created the goal, Ben chased the ball down from right back and with the New Fari players panicking, the ball found its way to RANDELL who finished coolly getting another well deserved goal 5-1. Who’d have thought it that Randell had gone so long without scoring and now he couldn’t miss! With the clock ticking down Lostock added a 6th and final goal and it was Diz who got himself on the score sheet after an impressive 2nd half display. A long clearance from make shift keeper Jake was flicked on by Will Yates for SCARBOROUGH to beat the offside trap and slot under the keeper to make the score 6-1. With the game all but over Yates made way for Belly for the closing few minutes mainly due to Yates having another B***H fit at the ref, no need for it with such a comfortable win. A great player who needs to play with fire in his heart and ice in his head.
A great 2nd half showing from Lostock, to win so easily against any team with only 10 men is an impressive feat. Poor Nutsy may now be suspended for the start of the new season! 1 game to go against Greenlands and then its party time!!!
