2nd game of the season and it’s at Home to an elated Ingol side after last years Premier Division triumph. Lostock had added a few new faces to last week’s line-up though, even with their ever-extending injury list at the moment. It was Cat in goal with a back four of Greeny, Bridgett, Chris Ganner and Kevin Livesey. The Midfield consisted of Russell ‘the jaw breaker’ Horsfield, Dan ‘malteser head’ McCarthy, Will Yates and Roddy. With Jon Sanderson and John Stead in attack.
Not long in and Roddy is scythed down with a cynical challenge on the corner of the Ingol box, after a light altercation with the defender Roddy is able to dust himself down and send in a ferocious swooping cross that is met beautifully by John ‘the gas tank’ Stead to put last years runners up 1-0 in front. Lostock seemed to be enjoying themselves when a silly free kick is awarded in a very similar position for Ingol. In comes what looks like a routine claim for Cat only to see him fumble with the Ingol centre half on hand to capitalise, 1-1. The Lostock lads were furious with their goalkeeper and he knew it. As Ingol started to gain impetuous Lostock were conceding silly free kicks all over the park that is until shortly before half time when Ingol made it pay. What had seemed like a poor cross to the naked eye had been made good with the nervous Cat again misjudging the cross at his peril, it had looked to be going out for a goal kick with the Ingol lad managing to volley across the goal for his colleague to claim his gift. The lad thought Christmas had arrived early 1-2.
At half time Lostock looked like they just had the stuffing knocked out of them, the usual bickering and arguing had begun and the manager was unable to deliver his team talk. This was partly due to his costly errors in the 1st half. The lads however had plenty of positives to take from the 1st half and knew more of the same in the 2nd would get them a result.
The 2nd half kicked off and it was more of the same from both sides with tackles flying in amidst some good passing spells. Roddy and Kev Livesey had got themselves involved and looked to be doing well, with Will Yates beginning to really take charge in the middle. This young man is really starting to come of age. On the hour mark Lostock had the game tied up with a corner met powerfully by Yates. Lostock would now surely go on to claim all 3 points. The game had reached the business end with both teams wanting to steal the spoils. After wasting what can only be described as a barrage of chances John Stead finished with aplomb. 3-2 to Lostock! The Lostock faithful were jubilant! Players and fans alike now began to badger the referee for the full time whistle, when suddenly a nicely threaded through ball saw the Ingol striker set free to steal a draw with the last kick of the game. The storm clouds had circled over Lostock Hall. Cat, now the former player/manager, tried to have his usual post match-boxing bout, with most players feeling embarrassed for his behaviour. However, another point I suppose was something to be positive about.
