AFC lost ground in the league this morning going down 3-2 to a determined Canaries side at Cottam, AFC welcomed back Lewis, Simon and Dan to the squad with the only changed being Randell replacing Jordan who was at a christening,
The game kicked off in ideal conditions with the sun shinning and minimal breeze, the opening period was fairly even with neither team taking control, Canaries however took the lead when AFC failed to clear the danger for the umpteen time this season, Louie was caught on the ball in his own box, Randy did nip in to clean up the mess and was pushed to the floor, the players stopped for a free kick which never came and the Canaries striker blasted into the net giving Stoney no chance. This seemed to wake the players and AFC finally started to knock the ball around with more purpose, chances came and went with Louie heading over from a corner and then fish was put clear through only to shoot just wide., the canaries keeper was also on fine form tipping a Randell effort onto the bar. It wasn’t all one way traffic as Canaries looked dangerous on the break and they doubled their lead in the last minute of the half, with several players upfield the ball was played to John who was caught in possession, Canaries broke with numbers on the counter attack the ball was crossed to the back post for the striker who was unmarked and he tapped home to make the score 2-0 at half time.
Tugs and Charlie were extremely disappointed being 2 down, once again the players were moaning and failing to take any reasonability for their first half performace. However the players were confident off turning things around and with plenty of options on the bench the starting 11 were given 10mins to make that happen.
AFC got the 2nd half started on the front foot, and scored with the first attack of the half, Dash got down the right before cutting back to Randell, he crossed to the back post and Fish slotted home on the half volley to make it 2-1. The game continued in the same manner with AFC having all the ball but not creating any major chances so the management decided to freshen things up with Simon and Dan replacing Jamie and Dwayne, Dan had the next chance when he beat the centre half only to shoot at the keeper from a tight angle. With time ticking away the AFC pressure finally told when Jake levelled matters, again Randell struck a dangerous cross to the back post which Louie headed back across goal and Jake was on hand to smash home from 3 yards and make the score 2-2. Alex Holland then made way for Ben as AFC went for the winner in the last 10, but with everyone pouring forward Canaries again hit AFC on the break and went back in front when their player slotted home after Jake did well to block the first attempt, as the minutes ticked away AFC ran out of ideas and Canaries should have scored a couple more but thankfully Stoney made a couple of good saves and the games finished 3-2.
Very disappointing result and performance with only a few players really playing well, next weeks game is massive away to Greenlands.
